Why Free and open source softwares required?
One
student is studying M.Tech second in year college in a college. There will be
no subjects for him to read in the second year. He will only do one project and
publish his project paper and submit his thesis report to the university.
The
project he was working on should never have been done by anyone. If done as a
prerequisite, you should get a better output. Or they may have to create a new
method. The project itself is worth it.
For
a student to do his or her project in real time is very difficult and
expensive. For example an EEE student wanted to create a device to reduce power
loss on high voltage transmission lines, but he did not go to the transmission
lines to make the corresponding exponential work that could not be done
artificially creating a HV transmission. Most of the experiments can be done
with some software on the computer.
These
are called simulation software, which is used by the ECE / EEE modeling of
different differential circuits in engineering to look at their outputs.
Similarly, some branches in engineering have supplementary software, other than
engineering and other streams such as Arts, Commerce, Science, Management, ...
Etc.Some of these streams contain some software related to education, and
students have to experiment on them. The country needs to develop in
technology, so students have to work well in these softwares.
Importance of Free and open source softwares:
Students
will, however, have to purchase software to practice personal or project work
on these softwares. Some of these cost thousands of software and some cost in
lakhs.
It
is impossible for students to buy software with high much amount. Not only
Students it is also difficult to colleges. Buying software for any Indian
student and any research scholar should not be a burden.
If
that happens India's potential will be reduced. It destroys the country's
progress.. Indian students' talents remain in poverty.
Benefit
should happen to all the people in a country with a population of billions,
which means that we have to go to the IT into people.
In
2010, the idea of APJ Abdul Kalam, The Government of India, Ministry of Human
Resource Development (MHRD) through National Mission on Education through
Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Carried
out a Project. The Project name is FOSSEE (Free / Libre and Open Source
Software for Education)
The
purpose of this project is to provide all free software on a single platform
and also provides spoken tutorials on free softwares , how to install, use ,
educate the students on open source softwares, in our country. This increases
self-learning.
As
well as the project aims to develop new open source software and develop Indian
students skills.
If
you are using some other licensed software you may change it with free and
opensource software . Developers will tell you how to transfer files.
This
FOSSEE is being run by IIT Bomby.
To
learn about this fossee, open any browser on your mobile or computer and type
https://fossee.in/ in the search bar and press enter. The FOSSEE website will
open, here you can find complete information about FOSSEE.

Let's
look at the free (open source) software promoted by FOSSEE.
These
are all free softwares, and you can download and use the software which you
need.
1. Scilab (which is similar to simulink
software). Clicking on this will redirect to https://scilab.in/, the website
Looks like this.
Click on Download
then it shows as follows
Download Scilab |
click on the file that supports the OS, download it |
Click on it, your computer will click on the file that supports the OS, download it, click on the next one and install it.
You can Learn how to use the tools with the help of spoken tutorials.

As
well as Next Python Software,
2. Python
Python
is also said to download and install the same,

3. eSim (This is a software called OrCAD,
which is an alternative to it). This software was developed by the IIT Bombay
FOSSEE team in India. It is used for circuit design, simulation, analysis and
PCB design.

4. Osdag (used for designing steel structures
with 3D visuals)
5. DWSIM ( it is an Chemical Process
Simulator)
6. OpenFOAM (This Software for Numerical
Analysis of Fluid Flow in Fluid Mechanics)
OpenFOAM |
7. OpenModelica (used for modelling,
simulating, optimizing, and analyzing complex dynamic systems.)
8. OpenPLC (which is a programmable logic
controller, used to control any process using logical operations)
9. Scilab Arduino (experiments with embeded
systems are done in this software)

10. SBHS (Single Board Heater System) is used to
learn about control systems

11. R (R is a language and environment for
statistical computing and graphics)

12. QGIS (Quantum GIS) Quantum Geographic
Information System. This is software for Geography,

13. FOCAL (free and open-source creative art
library) is a software for computer graphics.
Using
this fossee platform, we can learn as one.
If
any of these softwares offer training in Software Courses Colleges, college
must pay 25,000 FOSSEEs.
On
this site we have our correspondent, who will give you full details of contact.
Also
FOSSEE Team conducting Fellowships, they give some Tasks. If we complete them,
we paid with Money + Certificate. Money is also paid for who prepared textbooks
with solved examples for a particular software they given.
